One of the worst parts of being an adult is there seems to be less time in the day. That being said, weekend trips out of town, and the all but sacred extended weekend, are trips where every minute counts. In this post we will outline how to plan the ultimate adventure weekend.
Whether you are camping near home, driving a few hours to the nearest National Park, or flying cross country to summit El Capitan, you are going to have to figure out how to get there. If you are in fact staying close to home base, then you probably already have it handled. If you are going a little further, getting a group of friends together and renting one of those big white 12 passenger vans can be a really fun way to pass the time spent on the road. Better yet, you could rent a Camper van that you can even sleep in. If you are headed cross country and want to see the sites in between, this could be a great alternative to an expensive airline ticket. Visit: http://www.jucyrentals.com/ to find a van.
If you plan on camping, be sure to check for designated camp grounds, and approved off trail camping regulations for the area.
But we are planning the Ultimate Adventure Weekend. That doesn’t have to mean sleeping on a ground pad. Check sites like VRBO (vacation rental by owner), Airbnb, to find vacation homes that you can rent. This is typically a cheaper option than staying in a hotel. We love staying in VRBO’s because you get to meet awesome people who rent the properties, you have much more space than a hotel, and if desired, you can save money by cooking your own food instead of eating out every meal. Other great alternatives are to look for a hostel, or to couch surf! You can stay inside of Yosemite N.P. by renting the home in the picture above, for $325/night, it sleeps 10 people, has a full kitchen, a grill, and a pool table! 3. Plan your activities:
Depending on where you are planning on going and what your range of adventure is, be sure to check for the “must see” hikes as well as the lesser known gems. For example, in Zion National Park, almost everyone Hike’s Angels Landing. It is an amazing hike offering incredible views of the entire valley of Zion National Park. A lesser known hike is Hidden Canyon. Across the valley, Hidden canyon has a lot to offer to those wishing to experience a slot canyon, without the technical skills or gear to run through a more challenging route. If you do have technical skills, and find yourself in Zion, we recommend Pine Creek Canyon!
4. Check out where to find the best night life:
If you end up staying in a VRBO type set up, be sure to scout out ahead where the best restaurants, bars, and ice cream can be located. You don’t want to spend your precious time out of the office or school searching for a mediocre time. Know before you go! Tripadvisor is a great place to start looking. http://www.tripadvisor.com/
5. REMEMBER ALL YOUR GEAR:
Last but certainly not least, be sure to check that you have all the gear that you need. Yes you could always spend three times as much for a new sweatshirt in some shoddy gift shop, but that would be grounds to make this NOT the Ultimate Adventure Weekend.
So check your gear, check your buddies’ gear, vice versa, train your dog to know if you’ve forgotten anything, do whatever it takes to make sure that nothing forgotten ruins your Ultimate Weekend.
What is YOUR Ultimate Adventure Weekend? I’d love to know! I’ll be sharing some of mine in the next few posts.
